Setting it up

We promised at sometime back that we will be back with an explanation on the settings page. Its a bit delayed than what we would have liked it to be, but in the mean while we were adding some more features, fixing some bugs and cleaning up the UI. Thanks to all the comments and reports we received from our users which made this possible. You guys rock!

Lets now get straight into the settings page to see what it looks like

Lets now go through each one of them in order and understand what they do though most of them might sound self explanatory.
1. Vibrate on trigger : Controls whether to turn on the vibrator when a alarm is triggered

2. Use GPS location: Yes we can work both with and without GPS location. Though the accuracy surely improves with the GPS on, we do understand that the it consumes a lot of battery power in case of most phones. A thing to note here is that we DO NOT TURN ON THE GPS.  We just use it only if its turned on from the phone settings and is available. If the GPS is turned off, we just function without it.

3. Enable Service: This controls the background service which keeps checking for your triggered alarms. We let the user have complete control whether to to keep the service on or off. A word of caution here is that DISABLING THE SERVICE WILL NOT TRIGGER ANY ALARMS.

4. Notification Popup: The default in which a alarm trigger is notified is in the notification bar as shown in the left image. If this option is enabled, the alarm trigger pops up as an activity on the page as shown on the right image below




5. Triggering Range(miles):  The distance in miles within which radius an alarm triggers. This is a direct straight line distance.

6. Location Update distance (miles): The system looks for a location update after this specified distance is travelled

7. Location update interval(seconds): The time interval in seconds after which a location updated is requested from the system.

So Locum gets a location update when either the location update distance is travelled or the location update interval is elapsed.

8. Snooze Interval (mins) : As the name suggests, this is the time in minutes after an alarm is triggered that the alarm does not trigger again.

For most of the users, we suggest that the defaults be used. We have experimented the settings and tuned it to a point which falls in the proper level of performance vs batter life.

Locum - Getting Started!

Getting Started. How easy would it be if most things in this world would just behave like you wished they did.


We believe in a very simple minimalistic while effective design.


Following steps will help you create your first location alarm.


1) Click on "Create Alarm"

2) Select your location by clicking on <Click to open maps>

3)  Once you open maps, you can select your location using two options,
    a) use long press on any location on the map and you will get a marker, click on it to select
    b) search for a location, in our example - target atlanta and click search

4) Now click on one of the markers to select. On click, you will get a confirmation box like the following.

5) Once you confirm, you can go fill in other information about the location alarm. These include, 
Start date - From when should the alarm be active?
End date - From should the alarm be inactive?
Reminder - What message string should you get during notification?
Ringtone - Select one of your many phone ringtones.
Active - Activate or deactivate this alarm. If you set an alarm as inactive, it will not be considered in the list of alarms to be notified.


Click Save and you are done!

6) After you add multiple alarms, your home screen should look something like this.

You can click on one of the filled stars to deactivate an alarm. On clicking the star next to the location alarm - Sports Basement, it sets it as inactive and you will see it showing as an empty star.

7) Now, go about doing your work and if you are ever around any of your location alarms, you will get a notification on your phone.

As simple as that!

After umpteen trips and passes of places we needed to stop or shop for things but forgetting because something important came up, an idea struck and Locum was born.

We, the Locum team wanted to solve a very simple problem in our own life - "Getting the right reminders at the right location". So, we started working on an app. Now, we are happy to share it with you all.
